Music is in our soul
No visit to Scott County is complete without deep exploration of our musical background.
As the home of A.P. and Sara Carter and Mother Maybelle, Scott County is the true “birthplace of country music.” A.P. Carter was a collector of songs, and it was through the local hills and hollows that A.P. roamed gathering his songs, such as “Hello Stranger,” “Keep on the Sunny Side,” and the well-known “Will the Circle be Unbroken.” His music lives on today through the Carter Family Fold and other local weekly music jams.
